Purpose

Bigfoot Wilderness School is committed to providing a safe, respectful environment for all students. Bullying, harassment, and intimidation are not tolerated in any form.

Definition of Bullying

Bullying is repeated, intentional behavior that causes physical, emotional, or social harm. This may include:

• Verbal bullying (name-calling, teasing, threats)
• Physical bullying (hitting, pushing, damaging property)
• Social or relational bullying (exclusion, gossip, manipulation)
• Cyberbullying (harmful messages or posts via text or online platforms)

A single incident may be considered bullying if it involves significant harm or threat.

Prevention & Culture

We work to build a community based on respect, inclusion, and accountability. This includes:

• Clear communication of behavior expectations
• Active supervision during all program activities
• Encouraging students to speak up for themselves and others
• Supporting problem-solving, empathy, and respectful communication

Reporting & Response

Bullying behavior should be reported as soon as possible.

• Reports may be made to any staff member or the Program Director
• All concerns will be taken seriously and handled with care
• Staff will assess the situation and respond appropriately
• Families will be informed if behavior is serious or ongoing

Consequences

Responses to bullying will depend on the situation and may include:

• Guided reflection and accountability
• Temporary separation from activities
• Parent communication and a behavior support plan
• Removal from the program if behavior is severe or ongoing
